G.Zandanshatar: Italy is an important trading partner of Mongolia

On October 13, 2021, Мr. G.Zandanshatar, Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia received delegates headed by Mr. Ettore Rosato, Vice-President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Republic

At the beginning of the meeting Mr. G.Zandanshatar thanked the Italian Parliamentary Delegation, led by Mr. Ettore Rosato for visiting Mongolia and contributing to the expansion of Mongolian and Italian bilateral relations and cooperation, especially during a challenging time faced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on expanding bilateral trade, economic, political and cultural cooperation.

The Chairman noted, "Italy is an important trading partner of Mongolia, and in particular, one of the biggest markets for raw Mongolian cashmere in Europe. In 2020, Italy accounted for approximately 80 percent of raw cashmere exports and 22 percent of Italy's cashmere demands. Therefore, we believe that there are opportunities to further expand cooperation in this sector through the establishment of manufacturing facilities with Italian investment in Mongolia, and the selling of Mongolian wool and cashmere products in the Italian market.”

The parties are co-establishing the ‘Italian-Mongolian Textile Technology Center’, with the support of the Italian side. The Chairman further expressed contentment and highlighted the opportunity to acquire Italian expertise and know-how and the possibility for Mongolia to manufacture value-added products through the Center.

Mr. Ettore Rosato noted, “Our two countries have unique and rich historical and cultural traditions. Our cooperation is based on historical ties and the open and close friendship of its peoples. It is important to expand this cooperation in the political, trade and economic spheres. As part of our visit to Mongolia, we met today with the leadership of the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Tomorrow we will be visiting line ministries and establishments. We express hope that the two sides will exchange views on new opportunities and areas of cooperation and achieve concrete results.”

The Vice-President further expressed interest in expanding economic cooperation in Mongolia's leading sectors, in the energy and mining processing sectors and that he was confident that the time will soon come for a major Italian investor to begin operating in Mongolia. He further explained readiness to cooperate if the Government of Mongolia initiates the participation of the Italian side in certain major projects and programs and asked the support of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia in this new form of cooperation.

G.Zandanshatar asserted that as Mongolia aims to diversify its economy and become an export-based country, it will be possible to introduce advanced Italian technologies in wool, cashmere, leather processing and production, and supply products that meet European and Italian standards.

The Chairman also expressed interest in expanding traditional cooperation in the field of culture and education, intensifying relations in the areas of classical art, training specialists and employing Italian specialists in Mongolia.
