Mr. Zandanshatar Gombojav Chairman of the State Great Hural meets Mr. Wolfgang Sobotka, President of the National Council of Austria

Mr. Zandanshatar Gombojav, Charman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, met Mr. Wolfgang Sobotka, President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria, on September 6, 2021. The parties exchanged views on the importance of multilateral mechanisms and the significance of inter-parliamentary cooperation in ensuring international security and stability.

During the meeting, the parties highlighted the importance of finding solutions on global issues not only as a single country but through close cooperation by way of multilateral mechanisms. The two sides also highlighted the significant role of bilateral cooperation in a country’s prosperity and discussed seeking all opportunities to further strengthening economic cooperation and increasing trade contacts, as well as expanding cooperation between the two parliamentary groups.

Chairman Zandanshatar congratulated Mr. Wolfgang Sobotka and wished the every success in the organization of the “Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament” in Vienna. The conference has brought together Speakers of Parliaments from over 110 nations. The Chairman invited the President of the Austrian National Council to visit Mongolia at his convenience.

The World Conference of Speakers called for universal action to combat COVID-19, to ensure openness, transparency and security of parliaments, parliaments and global governance and their long-term goals, and in particular, the creation of a legal environment in combating the dissemination of false information and hate speech on and offline.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Togtokhsuren Dulamdorj, Member of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia and Chair of the Mongolian People’s Party caucus and Mr. Ganbat Dashdondog, Member of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia and Chair of the Democratic Party caucus.

Mongolia established diplomatic relations with Austria in 1963, with Austria being one of the first countries to recognize Mongolia's independence.
