Chairman M.Enkhbold attends the 136th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

Following the official visit to Japan, Chairman of the StateGreat Hural (Parliament) Mr. Miyegombo ENKHBOLD headed for the Republic ofBangladesh to attend the 136th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union thatcommenced in Dhaka on April 1, 2017.


In the frameworks, Chairman M.Enkhbold participated in the Meetingwith the Chairpersons of the geopolitical groups and Presidents of standing committees,where attendees considered the accretion of women and young parliamentarians’participation in the Governing council, Executive committee, Standing committee and otherstructural units. Besides, annual report improvements from member states onimplementation the IPU resolution and decree as well as crucial issues including human rights and conflict mitigation in countries such as Syria, Yemen,Venezuela and Cambodia.


During the Meeting, Chairman M.Enkhbold addressed theaudience representing the Asia-Pacific group and in his speech Mr. Enkhboldstressed the necessity of the accretion of young parliamentarians’participation in the IPU, which is as low as 10 percent, who are under the ageof 45. Moreover, his initiation to elect a regional representative responsible oncollecting reports from parliaments and deliver to the IPU was backed by Chairpersonsof the geopolitical groups and Presidents of standing committees.


The Inter-Parliamentary Union was established in Paris in 1889.The national parliaments of 171 countries are members of the IPU, and 11regional parliamentary assemblies are associate members. Mongolia joined theIPU in 1962.
