Chairman G.Zandanshatar meets FAO Country Representative Vinod Ahuja

Mr. G.Zandanshatar, Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia met with Mr. Vinod Ahuja, Country Representative of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Mongolia

Mr. Vinod Ahuja, Country Representative of FAO in Mongolia thanked Mr. G.Zandanshatar, Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia for taking the time to meet with him and introduced the ever-growing number and scope of projects being implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. He further elaborated that the expanded programme covers a range of issues such as food security and animal health. During the meeting, Mr. Vinod Ahuja invited Mr. G.Zandanshatar аs a guest of honor to the online event for the celebrations of the World Food Day, which is annually celebrated worldwide on October 16th. The event held under the theme of “Food Systems” is being organized online this year in lieu of the pandemic.

 

Тhe Chairman spoke about the country’s main goals of increasing non-mining exports and diversifying the economy as stated in the ‘Vision 2050’, a long-term policy document previously approved by the State Great Hural (Parliament) and further specified the importance of the participation of the food, agriculture and light industries in ensuring these goals and objectives. He noted that Mongolia's food and agricultural production has been uninterrupted and consistent even during difficulties arising from the pandemic, and that the Government of Mongolia has been actively taking measures to ensure food security and safety. Mr. G.Zandanshatar further stated that creating a competitive and climate-resilient food and agriculture system is that of a priority of Mongolia.

The parties exchanged views on food and agricultural projects supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and possibilities in cooperation in this area.
