Bilateral meetings were held with Parliamentary Speakers from Bangladesh, Thailand, Ireland, Sri Lanka and India

During the participation in the 136th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (April 1-5, 2017), Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia Mr. Miyegombo ENKHBOLD held bilateral meetings with Parliamentary Speakers from Bangladesh, Thailand, Ireland, Sri Lanka and India.

First, Chairman M.Enkhbold met with Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) Ms. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and during the meeting, Mr.Enkhbold expressed his appreciation that Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina Wajed took part in the 11th ASEM Summit held in Ulaanbaatar in 2016. Also, Mongolia is one of the first five states recognized the Bangladesh’s independence and the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries is marked in 2017. Besides, the sides exchanged views on mutual trade, economy and other spheres of cooperation.


During the meeting with the Vice President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Thailand Surachai Leangboonleodchai, the latter part noted, “However the two states geographically locate far from each other, but bilateral cooperation enhanced over the past few years and in this scope, we would strive to strengthen collaboration. The Kingdom of Thailand intends to renew its Constitution and we aim to develop sustainable democracy”. Chairman M.Enkhbold avowed that Mongolia-Thailand Friendship Group chaired by MP Kh.Bolorchuluun was formed at the State Great Hural and the Head of the Thailand Friendship Group is to visit Mongolia next May that would fortify friendly relations and open new pages in partnership history.


Chairman M.Enkhbold held a bilateral meeting with delegates from the Republic of Ireland headed by Chairperson of the Oireachtas (Senate of Ireland) Denis O'Donovan and during the talks, Mr.Enkhbold emphasized that Mongolia is to sign a Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union and asked to focus on this issue. Because, all EU member-states should approve the document before ratification and if Ireland ratifies, the new opportunities for cooperation with all countries in Europe would be opened. In turn, Senator Denis O'Donovan pledged to pay a particular attention conferring with the head of government and foreign minister. Moreover, parties exchanged views of cooperation in agriculture and education.


During the meeting with Speaker of the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Karu Jayasuriya, the sides expressed their interests to deepen cooperation in tourism, culture and inter-parliamentary collaboration.


During the talks with Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament of the Republic of India, Sumitra Mahajan, Chairman M.Enkhbold underlined that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mongolia in 2015 brought up a new level of cooperation in mutual relations and partnerships. He further noted, governments of two countries reached consensus and understandings on expenditure of one billion USD soft loan from the Government of India. Mongolia to spend the soft loan in oil refinery industry. Moreover, the sides exchanged views of cooperation enhance in trade, economy and educational sectors.
