On February 7, 2023, the Mr. G.Zandanshatar, Chairman of the Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia received Ms. Uzra Zeya, Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights of the United States of America.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. G.Zandanshatar expressed that the United States is one of Mongolia’s most important Third Neighbors and a trusted partner of the country, and noted he was pleased with the continued development of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. G.Zandanshatar noted that the two countries have common democratic values   such as the rule of law, respect for human rights and justice, and mentioned that this has become a solid foundation for the development of bilateral cooperation and the achievement of a Strategic Partnership.

Under Secretary of State Ms. Zeya, currently on her second visit to Mongolia, expressed gratitude that the US is considered a Democratic Spiritual Neighbor of Mongolia. She informed the Chairman that the US is leading the “Freedom Online Coalition” in 2023. Under Secretary of State Ms. Zeya also further expressed that Mongolia is a good example in its respect for human rights, civil freedoms, democracy and justice, and hoped that Mongolia becomes a positive influence for the region in respect to these values.

Mr. G.Zandanshatar, gave information on the ways Mongolia has been actively working in the field of protecting human rights in the online environment and elaborated on the plans of the State Great Hural in cooperation with civil society organizations and the National Human Rights Commission to improve upon the legal framework for ensuring and supporting human rights.

Also, at the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the possibility of expanding bilateral trade.
