Deputy Chairwoman of Parliament Kh. Bulgantuya and the accompanying delegation met with members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Relations Group within the British Parliament

The 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is currently being held in Tashkent, the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the assembly, Deputy Chairwoman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) Kh. Bulgantuya, along with the delegation from Mongolia, met with Fabian Hamilton, the Chair of the IPU Relations Group in the British Parliament, and other members.


At the beginning of the meeting, both parties noted the successful official visit of the Chairman of the State Great Hural, D. Amarbayasgalan, to the Inter-Parliamentary Union of the United Kingdom (IPU UK) in March. This visit was highlighted as a significant event in the bilateral relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom. Deputy Chairwoman Kh. Bulgantuya emphasized that despite the geographical distance between the two countries, their cooperation is based on shared values such as democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.


The Deputy Chairwoman further expressed the desire to strengthen parliamentary cooperation within the framework of the IPU. She also highlighted that the new parliament is focusing on ensuring sustainable economic growth, diversification, supporting foreign investments, and improving the legal environment, mentioning some of the recently passed laws and regulations.



Fabian Hamilton, the Chair of the IPU Relations Group in the British Parliament, expressed his pleasure at meeting with the Mongolian delegation and commended Mongolia’s efforts to promote gender equality in its parliament, particularly noting that Mongolia leads Asia in the percentage of female members in the parliament. He also expressed his satisfaction with the successful meetings held in the Westminster Palace during the Chairman's visit and emphasized the importance of continuing collaboration in various forms to strengthen the outcomes of the visit.



At the end of the meeting, Deputy Chairwoman Kh. Bulgantuya expressed her happiness about the planned visit of the British Parliament’s IPU Relations Group to Mongolia in June this year. She assured support for making this visit effective and fruitful.


The group includes members from both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, with the chair, deputy chair, and board members being elected annually.
