The 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is being held from May 5-9 in Tashkent, the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Representing the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia at the Assembly are Deputy Chairwoman Kh. Bulgantuya, Member of Parliament and Vice-President of the IPU Human Rights Committee O. Nominchimeg, Members of Parliament N. Naranbaatar and B. Punsalmaa, as well as the Secretary General of the State Great Hural B. Baasandorj.
During the Assembly, various IPU structural bodies, such as the Board of Directors, Standing Committees, the Human Rights Committee, and the Committee on the Middle East, will hold meetings. Additionally, forums for Female and Young Parliamentarians will also be organized.
The main discussion at the Assembly revolves around the topic “Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice.” The discussions aim to facilitate debate, exchange ideas, strengthen regional partnerships, and enhance parliamentary functions.
Furthermore, resolutions will be adopted based on issues discussed at the Standing Committees on Peace, International Security, and Sustainable Development.
On the first day of the Assembly, the Mongolian delegation participated in the Female Parliamentarians Forum, which has celebrated its 40th anniversary since its establishment. The forum focuses on gender equality, increasing women’s participation in decision-making, and strengthening the leadership, initiatives, and cooperation of female parliamentarians. The forum also marked the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which set out major goals for overcoming barriers to gender equality.
Additionally, Deputy Chairwoman Kh. Bulgantuya, and Members of Parliament N. Naranbaatar and B. Punsalmaa participated in the Asia-Pacific Group meeting, exchanging views on enhancing regional partnerships and expanding cooperation among member countries in guiding parliamentary activities.
During the previous IPU Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, Member of Parliament O. Nominchimeg was elected as a member of the IPU Human Rights Committee. She is currently serving as the Vice-President of the Committee at this Assembly.
Over 100 countries are represented at this Assembly, and during the event, the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments will hold a meeting, which will also see the participation of Secretary General of the State Great Hural B. Baasandorj, as reported by the Secretariat of the State Great Hural.
