Female MPs of the State Great Hural (Parliament) met with representatives of the IPU working group

The joint meeting and discussion between the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia and the Inter-Parliamentary Union concluded on June 23-24, 2025.

Following the meeting, female MPs representing the four political parties in the State Great Hural met with representatives of the IPU working group.

The meeting was attended by Members of the State Great Hural Ch. Nomin, L. Enkhnasan, B. Munkhsoyol, A. Ariunzaya, M. Mandkhai, Kh. Baasanjargal, B. Jargalan, and S. Zamira.

At the beginning of the meeting, Member of the State Great Hural Ch. Nomin extended greetings on behalf of the Members of the Parliament on the occasion of the 136th anniversary of the founding of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the 40th anniversary of the Women Parliamentarians’ Forum, and the International Day of Parliamentarism, and introduced the members participating in the meeting.

She emphasized that parliamentary activities play a central role in accelerating social development and establishing justice, highlighting the importance of ensuring equality, citizen participation, and diverse representation.

According to the results of Mongolia’s first parliamentary election in 1992, out of 76 elected members, only 3 were women. However, in 2023, constitutional amendments were made to better represent various social groups, prevent the loss of voters’ voices, and improve the representational capacity of parliamentarians.

As a result, in the 2024 parliamentary elections—the ninth regular election of the State Great Hural—32 out of the 126 elected members were women. This means women constitute 25.4% of the parliament, making Mongolia one of the leading countries in Asia in terms of women’s representation in parliament.

The delegation from the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) working group introduced the Women Parliamentarians’ Group Handbook. This handbook includes methods, opportunities, and experiences to activate the activities of women parliamentarians’ groups and to implement effective measures. It was noted that the activities of women parliamentarians’ groups are most effective when working closely with civil society organizations, the State Great Hural Press Office reported.
