A tripartite discussion on the topic of “Gender Equality” was organized

Since 2018, the establishment day of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has been celebrated globally as International Day of Parliamentarianism. In observance of this day, which falls annually on June 30, the State Great Hural of Mongolia, the IPU Group of the British Parliament, and the IPU Secretariat jointly organized a tripartite discussion.

The tripartite discussion on the topic of “Gender Equality” was attended by Deputy Chairwoman of the State Great Hural, Kh. Bulgantuya, alongside female members of the Mongolian Parliament; Secretary General of the State Great Hural, B. Baasandorj; representatives of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Group of the British Parliament led by Fabian Hamilton; Mariana Duarte from the IPU Gender Partnership Programme; Hilary Gbedemah, expert on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW); and Boutaina Lamharzi, Human Rights Programme Officer.

According to the Press and Public Relations Department of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, participants in the tripartite discussion emphasized that ensuring equal rights and equitable opportunities for women in political, economic, public, and family spheres—and increasing their participation in decision-making processes—has numerous positive impacts on nations and societies.

The parties agreed that strong parliamentary leadership in this area is essential for achieving tangible results. They also highlighted the success of the recent joint meeting and discussion organized by the State Great Hural of Mongolia and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which focused on strengthening parliamentary engagement with the United Nations human rights mechanisms.
