The “Open Parliament” Internship Program, aimed at increasing the transparency and openness of the activities of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, strengthening public trust in Parliament, promoting parliamentary awareness among students and youth, inspiring them, expanding their knowledge and information in this area, and enhancing their civic engagement, officially concluded today (July 1, 2025).
At the opening of the closing ceremony of the program, Secretary General of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, Mr. B. Baasandorj, delivered remarks to the student interns. He stated, “The first 126-member Parliament has now completed one year of its term. In the State Great Hural’s 2024–2028 Strategic Plan, we have emphasized values such as a human-centered approach, the promotion of human rights and freedoms, professionalism, and ensuring public participation. Within this framework, we organized an internship program to introduce university students to the Parliament’s legislative and oversight functions and engage them in its activities. I am personally pleased that the majority of the 30 student interns, who are graduating this year, expressed interest in working at the Secretariat of the State Great Hural and its affiliated institutions. If they successfully pass the civil service exam in accordance with the relevant legislation, I will fully support and recommend them to the respective institutions' leadership.”
Mr. N. Bulgantamir, Adviser to the Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) and head of the “Open Parliament” internship program, expressed his gratitude to the university presidents and administrators who supported the student participants, as well as to the students themselves for their responsible engagement in the program. He also wished them continued success.
G. Nyamtungalag, a student from Otgontenger University, shared her appreciation for the experience, stating, “I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and discover so much during the internship. I came to understand that the Secretariat provides professional and methodological support to the State Great Hural (Parliament) in an independent, skilled, stable, responsible, ethical, transparent, and open manner. Thank you to everyone who made it possible for us to explore and learn about all of this.”
M. Maralmaa, a student from the National University of Mongolia, said, “I interned at the International Relations Department of the State Great Hural. I learned a lot about how our Parliament collaborates with parliaments of other countries, the organization of international conferences and meetings, as well as the significance of high-level official state visits.”
M. Jargalsaikhan, a student from the University of Science and Technology, said, “I am glad to have interned in the Secretariat of the Standing Committee on Innovation and E-Policy, which is directly related to my field of study. I gained insight into how sectoral policies are implemented and the challenges faced in the relationship between government and private sector organizations.”
Sh. Amgalanbayar, a student from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, shared, “Everything was new to me during my internship at the Secretariat of the Standing Committee on State Structure. There was so much I didn’t know and needed to learn. I was able to observe and experience firsthand the responsibilities and work of a civil servant.”
T. Nominchuluun, a student from the University of Finance and Economics, said, “As part of the Standing Committee on Budget’s scope of work, I was involved in organizing meetings, working with task forces, conducting nominee hearings, and archiving official documents. I realized that beyond knowledge and professional skills, working in public service requires teamwork, organization, responsibility, and ethical conduct. I learned a lot—from drafting official correspondence to understanding the overall process. Previously, I only heard about public service through media, but after experiencing it firsthand, I gained trust and respect for it. I also saw how Members of Parliament, the Secretariat, and Standing Committees work tirelessly toward a shared policy goal, sometimes around the clock, just to draft, discuss, and adopt a single bill or decision. Public service is not just a job—it’s a responsibility to serve the people.”
According to the Press and Public Relations Department of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, B. Baasandorj, Secretary General of the State Great Hural; Ch. Ariunkhur, First Deputy Secretary General of the Secretariat; and D. Bumdar, Director of the Parliamentary Research and Development Institute, presented certificates of completion to university student interns who worked at the Secretariat of the State Great Hural for a period of three months, and wished them success in their future careers and endeavors.
