On 3 July 2025, during its Plenary Session, the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia adopted the draft law amending the Law on the National Naadam Festival, which had been submitted to Parliament on 23 June 2025 by MP B. Jargalan and 39 other Members. The law entered into force on the same day.
According to the Press and Public Relations Department of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, the recent amendments to the Law on the National Naadam Festival stipulate that the anniversaries of the Founding of the First Statehood, the Establishment of the Great Mongol Empire, the National Liberation Movement that restored Mongolia’s independence, the People’s Revolution, and the Democratic Revolution shall be celebrated jointly with the National Naadam Festival.
The inclusion of the anniversaries of the Founding of the First Statehood, the National Liberation Movement, and the Democratic Revolution—alongside the commemorations of the Establishment of the Great Mongol Empire and the People’s Revolution—within the Law on the National Naadam Festival is, according to the initiators of the bill, intended to fully embody the essence of the Naadam Festival as a national traditional celebration symbolizing Mongolia’s independence, sovereignty, statehood, national unity, history, culture, heritage, and customs. They believe this amendment will contribute to the consolidation of shared national values.
