On July 9, 2025, Deputy Chairwoman of the State Great Hural, Kh. Bulgantuya, met with Stanislav Berkovec, Chair of the Czech-Mongolian Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic.
At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Chairwoman of the State Great Hural Kh. Bulgantuya emphasized that the Czech Republic is Mongolia’s “third neighbor” and a trusted partner in Europe. She highlighted the shared common values between the two countries, including democracy, human rights, freedom, and the rule of law. She also noted that the regular parliamentary election was held in 2024, resulting in the election of 126 members from five parties and coalitions in accordance with amendments made to the Constitution.
She stated that 78 members of the State Great Hural were elected through a majoritarian system and 48 through a proportional system, ensuring representation of multiple parties and creating a pluralistic parliament with effective oversight. Additionally, as a result of measures implemented to promote gender equality in parliament, the representation of women has reached 25%, making Mongolia one of the leading countries in Asia in this regard.
The newly formed parliament is actively initiating and deliberating on many important draft laws aimed at ensuring sustainable economic growth, supporting foreign investment, improving the investment environment, and diversifying the economy. In doing so, the parliament is shifting from focusing on the quantity of laws passed to measuring effectiveness by the contribution made to improving citizens’ lives.
In connection with these changes, the parliament is implementing the “Three Maturations” policy to strengthen parliamentary governance through reforms and transformations, she explained.
Stanislav Berkovec, Head of the Czech-Mongolian Parliamentary Group in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic, noted that approximately 14,000 Mongolian citizens currently reside legally in the Czech Republic, and emphasized that about 28% of them are under the age of 18. He also mentioned that a Social Protection Agreement was signed with Mongolia in March 2024 and expressed his commitment to closely monitoring its implementation.
The meeting was also attended by Member of Parliament J. Bat-Erdene, Head of the Mongolia-Czech Parliamentary Group, who expressed confidence that the two sides would continue to work together to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly cooperation between the legislative bodies of Mongolia and the Czech Republic.
