D. Amarbayasgalan, expressed Mongolia’s aspiration to further expand its relations and cooperation with the Swiss Confederation across various sectors

On 29 July 2025, Mr. D. Amarbayasgalan, Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, held an official meeting with Ms. Maya Riniker, President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. D. Amarbayasgalan, Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, noted that Switzerland is Mongolia’s third neighbor and a trusted partner in Europe. He expressed Mongolia’s aspiration to expand bilateral relations and cooperation across various socio-economic sectors. He acknowledged the successful implementation of joint projects aimed at strengthening democracy, the rule of law, and the parliamentary system in Mongolia, and expressed appreciation for the cooperation developed in areas such as the Swiss Parliament’s legislative practices—particularly in conducting public referenda and promoting principles of direct democracy. He also affirmed that the State Great Hural is committed to further deepening inter-parliamentary ties, including cooperation between parliamentary secretariats, and to supporting practical collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

Ms. Maya Riniker, President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation, expressed her pleasure at the growing relations and cooperation between the two countries, noting that although Mongolia and Switzerland are geographically distant, they share common values grounded in peace and multilateral cooperation. She highlighted the fruitful collaboration between the legislative bodies and their secretariats, noting that one reflection of this is the upcoming visit to Mongolia by a delegation from the National Council of Switzerland this autumn to exchange best practices on parliamentary oversight.

She also noted that although the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation has concluded its operations in Mongolia, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) continues to finance previously launched programs and projects. In this regard, she expressed hope that the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia would continue to support such cooperation.

The two sides exchanged views on the possibility of establishing a parliamentary friendship group with Mongolia in the Swiss Federal Assembly.
