The 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament is currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland (July 29, 2025). The conference brings together Speakers from 84 member countries of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, along with 18 Deputy Speakers. Discussions are focused on promoting responsibility in international relations, supporting democracy, guiding parliamentary diplomacy toward peace and mutual understanding, amplifying citizens’ voices within the United Nations, and turning international commitments into tangible outcomes.
Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, D. Amarbayasgalan, delivered a speech at the conference’s general debate on “A world in turmoil: Parliamentary cooperation and multilateralism for peace and justice for all.”
He emphasized that countries with their unique characteristics, cultures, traditions, and values must equally participate in creating a new global order and build a multipolar world. He noted that Mongolia, with its peace-oriented, open, independent, and multipolar foreign policy, considers resolving challenges through dialogue and consensus crucial for strengthening global peace and security.
Continuing, he highlighted the importance of parliamentary involvement and leadership in maintaining world peace and security. To this end, Mongolia has strengthened its parliamentary system by amending the Constitution to ensure equal participation of diverse social groups, increasing the number of MPs to 126, and introducing a mixed electoral system. As a result, the number of female MPs has reached 32, approaching the goals set by the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
He also introduced the 2024–2028 strategic plan of the State Great Hural, which promotes a human-centered, rights-based “Three Pillars of Excellence” policy aimed at building a society grounded in human rights, rule of law, and democracy.
He stressed that a democratic, representative system based on multilateral cooperation and citizen participation is fundamental to stability and peace. Mongolia is committed to fulfilling its international responsibilities and working closely with the IPU and other parliaments to build a more peaceful future.
