Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan: We request that the issue of Mongolian citizens being turned back at the South Korean border be resolved

The Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, D. Amarbayasgalan, held an official meeting with Woo Won-shik, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, on July 30, 2025. At the beginning of the meeting, Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan expressed his pleasure at meeting again following the official visit of Honorable Mr. Woo Won-shik to Mongolia in April 2025.


Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan of the State Great Hural of Mongolia emphasized the importance of deepening and strengthening relations and cooperation with the Republic of Korea, a key “third neighbor” sharing common values such as democracy, human rights, and a market economy, as well as being a close partner in the Northeast Asian region.


He also urged prompt resolution of obstacles facing the project to build heating plants in the centers of 10 provinces in Mongolia, which is being implemented with concessional loans from South Korea, and requested focused attention on the selection of a new contractor.


Furthermore, he requested continued special attention from the National Assembly of South Korea to facilitate reciprocal travel for citizens of both countries, ease conditions for Mongolian citizens traveling to South Korea for health, humanitarian, or compassionate reasons, and address the issue of Mongolian travelers being turned back at South Korean borders.

Following his official visit to Mongolia, Woo Won-shik, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, emphasized his commitment to promptly restoring and successfully implementing the project to build heating plants in the centers of 10 provinces.



He also expressed that efforts are underway to facilitate travel conditions for Mongolian citizens to South Korea. Specifically, possibilities are being explored to introduce electronic visas, increase the number of consular staff at the Embassy, and simplify visa procedures for groups traveling in an organized manner.


Both sides exchanged views on the issues discussed and agreed upon during the official visit, aiming to enrich and develop tangible economic cooperation between the two countries.
