On July 30, 2025, Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, D. Amarbayasgalan, held an official meeting with Senator Raymonde Gagné, Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of Canada.
At the beginning of the meeting, Chairman of the State Great Hural D. Amarbayasgalan noted that the comprehensive partnership and cooperation between Mongolia and Canada is being enriched with new content and actively developing. He highlighted that the 126-member parliament has initiated numerous important legislative proposals aimed at ensuring sustainable economic growth, supporting foreign investment, improving the legal environment, and diversifying the economy. Furthermore, he emphasized the shift towards evaluating the parliament’s effectiveness not by the number of laws passed, but by the contribution these laws make to improving the lives of citizens.
He also emphasized that as a result of focused efforts to ensure gender equality, 32 women were elected in the 2024 parliamentary elections, and the introduction of a mixed electoral system enabled the parliament to include representation from multiple political parties.
From the side of Senator Raymonde Gagné, Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of Canada, it was noted that Mongolia’s successful implementation of the mixed electoral system has renewed the parliamentary composition with representation from youth across various sectors and has advanced gender equality.
The two sides discussed cooperation in the mining sector and investment, agreeing that by intensifying collaboration in these areas, bilateral relations and cooperation can be further expanded and developed, according to the State Great Hural’s Press and Media Department.
