The 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held in Geneva, has successfully concluded

The Mongolian delegation to the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament included Chairman of the State Great Hural D. Amarbayasgalan, Members of Parliament J. Bat-Erdene, J. Ganbaatar, A. Ariunzaya, Kh. Baasanjargal, and Ts. Sandag-Ochir as well as Mongolia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Swiss Confederation and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, D. Gerelmaa.

Since its establishment in 2000, the Inter-Parliamentary Union has organized the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament every five years. The 6th Conference took place in Geneva from July 29 to 31, 2025, under the theme “Parliamentary diplomacy and multilateralism: Delivering peace and justice for all in a turbulent world.”

Speakers from over 90 countries attended, discussing how legislative bodies can address the major challenges facing the global community. Key topics included:

      the participation of women and youth during times of division and polarization;

      innovative solutions for building a peaceful and prosperous future;

      exploring new opportunities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030;

      the role of parliaments in shaping a digital future;

      comprehensive measures to combat discrimination and exclusion.

Delegates emphasized that amid armed conflicts threatening global security and the erosion of international legal norms, strengthening parliamentary cooperation and multilateralism is more important than ever.

In his speech at the general debate, Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan emphasized that, as a country with a peaceful, open, independent, and multi-pillared foreign policy, resolving challenges through consensus and dialogue is of vital importance.

He also highlighted the critical role of parliamentary leadership and engagement in ensuring global peace and security. Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan affirmed Mongolia’s commitment to working closely with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and parliaments worldwide to build a peaceful future and fulfill its international obligations.

Furthermore, enhancing gender equality in parliament, combating discrimination, and promoting sustainable development were central themes of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.

Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan, along with Members of Parliament J. Bat-Erdene, J. Ganbaatar, A. Ariunzaya, Kh. Baasanjargal, and Ts. Sandag-Ochir, held official meetings with parliamentary speakers from partner countries and senior officials of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to exchange views on relations and cooperation.

Official meetings were held with the Speakers of Parliament from the Russian Federation, the Swiss Confederation, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Canada, Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Singapore, as well as with Inter-Parliamentary Union President Tulia Ackson and Secretary-General Martin Chungong.

Engagement with Speakers from regional countries provided an opportunity to elevate the Ulaanbaatar Dialogue on strengthening security in Northeast Asia to the parliamentary level, in line with the conference’s call to action.

Mongolia maintained its position as an active regional player and engaged in extensive discussions on developing cooperation with these countries, particularly focusing on parliamentary collaboration.

Additionally, Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan signed a document with Inter-Parliamentary Union Secretary-General Martin Chungong to extend the Memorandum of Cooperation between the State Great Hural of Mongolia and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. This extension prolongs the agreement’s validity until 2028 and establishes a foundation for joint efforts to uphold human rights and gender equality, as well as to implement the goals outlined in the State Great Hural’s 2024–2028 strategic plan.

As a result, the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament adopted a Declaration outlining a roadmap towards peace, justice, and the development and prosperity of humanity. According to the Declaration, parliaments commit to strengthening peace processes by reflecting these commitments in their legislation and ensuring their effective implementation.
