S. Byambatsogt, Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, received a delegation led by Jin Sung-joon, Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Chair of the Defense Committee, and Chair of the Korea-Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group, on July 9, 2026.

The Chairman S. Byambatsogt welcomed Jin Sung-joon ahead of the Naadam festival and congratulated him on his appointment as Chair of the Defense Committee.

The Chairman noted that Mongolia-Republic of Korea relations have steadily developed in a wide range of areas since the establishment of diplomatic relations, based on shared values of democracy, human rights, fundamental freedoms, and a market economy.

Mr. S.Byambatsogt also highlighted the expanding cooperation between the two parliaments, parliamentary friendship groups, and Secretariats within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Chairman S. Byambatsogt expressed confidence that the state visit of President Lee Jae Myung to Mongolia would further strengthen bilateral relations.

The Chairman S. Byambatsogt also emphasized the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation and noted the successful visit of the Mongolia-Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group to the Republic of Korea last year.

The Chairman expressed his confidence that the two parliamentary friendship groups would continue to cooperate on legislation issues concerning citizens, particularly the protection of children’s rights.

The Chairman S. Byambatsogt also proposed expanding cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea in further developing Mongolia’s “Open Parliament” reform, launched during the 2026 spring parliamentary session. In this regard, he expressed interest in studying the National Assembly’s experience in implementing legislation and parliamentary oversight.

Mr. S.Byambatsogt further proposed cooperation in developing a “Smart Parliament” through the use of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, including identifying overlapping and inconsistencies in draft legislation, comparing international practices, and analyzing citizens’ views based on data.

Chairman S. Byambatsogt also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation among the secretariats of the two parliaments, research institutions, academics, researchers, and experts in advancing technology- and data-driven parliamentary activities.

Jin Sung-joon, Chair of the Defense Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, expressed his appreciation for the meeting and noted that the visit of the National Assembly delegation coincided with President Lee Jae Myung’s state visit to Mongolia, making it a meaningful occasion for further strengthening bilateral relations.

Mr. Jin Sung-joon highlighted the continued efforts of the Korea-Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group to expand parliamentary cooperation and promote high-level visits between the two countries. He also noted the development of cooperation in areas including visa facilitation, protection of children’s rights, healthcare, education, and tourism.

Jin Sung-joon, Chair of the National Defense Committee expressed the National Assembly’s readiness to further expand cooperation with Mongolia in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
