17 May 2021. Mr. B.Battumur, a member of the State Great Hural and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy has participated in the virtual session of the IPU Standing Committee on Peace and International Security representing the Mongolian parliament.

More than 50 IPU member delegates at today's session have debated on a draft resolution “Parliamentary strategies to strengthen peace and security against climate-related disasters, their consequences and crises”.

The draft calls on member states to be prepared for the challenges and invest in prevention strategies in order to maintain peace and stability and reduce climate security risks. It also recognizes the need for a strategic response to climate security risks to prioritize support for vulnerable regions in the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda, as well as food independence, natural resource management, resettlement and disaster risk. The IPU calls on its members to strengthen the UN system in order to address the issue effectively and direct the resolution. The purpose of the draft resolution is also to intensify the debate on climate-related migration and the urgent need to protect refugees in the event of a climate crisis.
